Third Staff Development Day 2007-08

Four pioneer teachers took part in the pilot on-site support programme for application of brain-compatible strategies in classroom teaching this year.  The programme was an extension of the two initial training workshops held in the last two years and was supported by Mr. Ricky Chan and Mrs. Anson Chan, two of the few certified Brain-based trainers in Hong Kong.  The first part of the Third Staff Development Day served to provide a formal occasion for the pioneer teachers to share their experience with others.  The second part concerned about the formulation of a new School Development Plan for the coming five years.

Introduction to Quantum Learning

Quantum Learning, a well-known idea originates from the States, involves a set of learning strategies and has proved to be effective in fostering accelerated academic learning and life skills development in teenagers.  To sustain our continuing development in learning and teaching effectiveness in the classroom, the College is going to promote the use of these strategies.  As an introduction, Ms Jessica Neenan, an experienced lead facilitator of the Quantum Learning programme, was invited to lead our teachers experience a few of the many strategies.

Voluntary Service Programme

This voluntary service programme was initiated by the College Alumni Association and supported by the Caritas Centre (Stanley), the College Parent-Teacher Association and Students' Association.  It aimed at providing leadership and service learning opportunities to students.

Mathematics Trail 2007-08

Mathematics society organized a Mathematics Trail Competition on 30/04/08. There were 18 teams of threes from Form One to Form Three who participated in this event. Each group of students was assigned to a starting station. At each station, students had one question to answer. Students had to find the next station after they found the solution of the question. The group which finished all questions in the shortest time won.

'People Power in a New World' Youth Arts Projects

41 students participated in this activity. They decorated a miniature figure and invited a teacher to make a donation HK$20 or above to Médecins Sans Frontiéres. MSF is an international charity that provides medical assistance to victims of war, epidemics and natural disasters in over 70 countries around the world. We collected HK$2,720. All finished figures will be exhibited at the New World Centre from 30 April to 12 May 2008.

Straw Competition 2008

On 27th April 2008, seven students of our College took part in the Hong Kong and Macau Inter-School Straw Competition 2008, organized by the 15th Physics and Materials Science Society of City University of Hong Kong Students’ Union, where they are required to build a platform with straws to project a ball to the greatest distance. Among 200 teams from over 100 secondary schools in Hong Kong and Macau, one of our teams achieved the greatest distance (18.33 m) and won the Championship (Senior Section) of the competition. The winning team members are: F. 6M Au Yeung Chun, Cheung Ho Wang, Ng Chak Hang (team leader), Tang Chun Yat.
