Introduction

The St Stephen’s College curriculum is a blend of rigorous academic courses and wide-ranging co-curricular programmes, designed to equip students with life-long learning capabilities to meet the challenges of the modern world. The academic training focuses on university preparation while co-curricular activities on leadership experiences and life-wide learning opportunities to better students’ lives at, and beyond, SSC.

To bring out the best in each individual student, over the next six-year period, five special student programmes have been arranged: mandatory boarding ; creativity ; exchange and immersion ; service learning ; and mentoring .

Under the DSS Scheme, the College offers:
•  small classes
•  a wide range of courses and flexible combinations of subjects in the IB and HKDSE
•  a substantial number of native-speaking teachers of English and Putonghua
•  enriched co-curricular activities cultivating leadership, creativity and service
• opportunities for cultural exchange and specialist counseling for university placement

 

The S1 – S3 General Education Programme

The S1 - S3 Programme provides students with a comprehensive curriculum covering all the eight Key Learning Areas (Chinese Language Education, English Language Education, Mathematics Education, Personal, Social & Humanities Education, Science Education, Technology Education, Arts Education and Physical Education), as well as a range of school-based individual challenges for life-long and life-wide learning.

S1 - S2 students study English Language and Literature; Chinese Language; Mathematics and ten other subjects including Chinese History; Integrated Humanities; Religious Studies; Integrated Science; Computer and Information Technology; Design & Technology; Food & Home Management; Visual Arts; Music and Physical Education.

S3 students study English Language and Literature; Chinese Language; Mathematics and twelve other subjects including Liberal Studies; Chinese History; History; Geography; Religious Studies; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Computer and Information Technology; Visual Arts; Music and Physical Education.

The S4 – S6 Diploma Programme 

The SSC senior secondary curriculum is rich and diverse. Together with physical education and music as non-examination subjects, our curriculum covers the eight Key Learning Areas and Liberal Studies. It is designed to ensure every student has the essential preparation for success in a university and a career of his or her choice.

In the current school year, a total of 14 subjects at senior secondary level are offered of which Chinese Language; English Language; Mathematics and Liberal Studies are the core; and the other 10 subjects are the electives. Mathematics extended module 1 and 2 are also provided in addition to its compulsory part.

Elective subjects offered in S4 - 6 include:

Chinese History; Economics; Geography; History; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Business, Accounting and Financial Studies; Information and Communication Technology and Visual Arts.

Students have to study two language subjects, Mathematics, Liberal Studies and three electives (or two electives only in S5 and S6) leading to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination.


International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

St Stephen's College is offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in parallel with the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education. The IBDP is recognized by universities in Hong Kong and widely accepted by colleges and universities around the world.
