Orchestra, Symphonic Band, String Chamber Orchestra

St. Stephen's College Orchestra was founded in 1976 as a chamber ensemble. Over the years it has developed into a full-size symphony orchestra, and now has about 70 members. Our orchestra is a special group in St. Stephen's and is an integral part of school music life. On campus, the annual Speech Day has become a major event for the orchestra. A Symphonic Band and String Chamber Orchestra were developed as the supporting ensembles for our members to enrich their ensemble skills and learn more repertoires in a variety of styles.

Off campus, we take part in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and other competitions such as the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows and Winter Band Festival every year. Our school organises overseas music tour for the orchestra and symphonic band tri-annually. In July 2014, our orchestra took part in the 8th Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna and won the 1st Place with excellence success in the Category of Chamber Orchestra with Winds. In July 2017, our orchestra entered the 28th Australian International Music Festival and was awarded the prestigious Gold Award in the Instrumental Ensemble Adjudication.
