English at St. Stephen’s College features English and Language Arts (ELA) and English Language and Literature (ELL).
The aim of the learning and teaching of ELA is to help students gain proficiency in while supporting maintenance of their mother tongue and cultural heritage. In addition, students are expected to develop the communication skills necessary for further language learning, for study, work and leisure in a range of authentic and functional contexts.
ELL aims to show students critical, creative and personal approaches to studying and analysing literary and non-literary texts, as well as providing opportunities to explore and analyse aspects of personal, host and other cultures through said texts.
