Food and Home Management
Food and Home Management is a dynamic subject that equips students with vital life skills, including food preparation, nutrition awareness, home management, basic sewing techniques and cultural awareness.  By integrating theoretical learning with hands-on experience, students develop their ability to make informed food choices, practice healthy eating habits, and understand the importance of home and family management, which contribute to their overall well-being and independence.

This comprehensive program enables students to become self-directed learners, responsible citizens, and creative individuals who can help shape a better and healthier future.

Empowering Students as Self-Directed Learners
The subject aims to cultivate students' ability to become self-directed learners by providing them with essential knowledge about food, nutrition, and home management. The curriculum covers three key areas:
  • Food and Cooking Techniques – Understanding food nutrients, healthy eating, and food preparation methods.
  • Fabric, Clothing, and Sewing Skills – Learning sewing techniques, fabric care, and garment alteration.
  • Home and Family Management – Developing household management skills and financial literacy.
To achieve these goals, students will engage in activities such as meal planning, understanding nutrition labels, and mastering various cooking techniques. By the end of the course, students should be able to design balanced diets, prepare nutritious meals, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Strengthening 3Cs and 3Rs
The curriculum also promotes the 3Cs (Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication) and 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) to instil environmental consciousness and sustainability in students. Students are encouraged to:
  • Properly dispose of and recycle waste using designated bins.
  • Reduce plastic use by bringing their own storage containers for food.
  • Minimize detergent and disposable paper usage during cleaning.
  • Participate in food waste collection programs to promote sustainable living.
  • Foster students’ awareness of environmental issues.
Cooking is an essential life skill that can grow into a lifelong passion. By preparing dishes, we can share them with family and friends, enhancing stronger relationships. It can also be an enjoyable activity during our free time. Additionally, experimenting with different recipes allows us to develop our creativity.
